WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A DIGITAL WEDDING FILM AND A SUPER 8 WEDDING FILM?
There are major differences between a digital wedding film and a Super 8 wedding film.
Digital wedding films are recorded in 4K or even 8K resolution.
This results in ultra-sharp and stable images. You have plenty of storage space on your memory card, and it's easy to back up your footage. The films can be edited easily — almost anything can be adjusted.
Super 8 films, on the other hand, are made using real film.
Each film cartridge contains only a few minutes of recording time — just 3 minutes!
The image has a very distinctive look: natural film grain, unique colors. It gives the footage real character, often resembling the soft, dreamlike quality of how memories feel.
Once the film is shot, it needs to be developed in a lab and then scanned in order to view it digitally.
The final edited film is usually between 3 and 10 minutes long.
Nowadays, there are all kinds of filter effects that try to give a digital film a vintage feel. But Super 8 is truly authentic — and delivers a result that is genuinely unique and full of personality.

HOW DOES FILMING A SUPER 8 WEDDING FILM WORK?
Because Super 8 film has only a limited amount of recording time, we’ll first take time together to discuss the atmosphere or style you have in mind. What kind of moments and visuals matter most to you?
On the wedding day itself, I’m present in a calm and unobtrusive way — always on the lookout for the most genuine and beautiful moments.
You may already know this, but Super 8 film is recorded without sound.
After the wedding, I send the film rolls to a specialized lab for development. Once I receive the digital scans, I carefully craft the final film — adding music to complete the story.
The editing is focused on storytelling and capturing the emotion of the day — not on flashy effects, but on feeling.
IS A SUPER 8 WEDDING FILM SUITABLE FOR EVERY TYPE OF WEDDING?
Yes, in principle, Super 8 film is suitable for any type of wedding.
But it’s especially fitting for couples who value authenticity and storytelling.
Intimate weddings — like a celebration in your own backyard, a vintage bohemian wedding, or a city wedding in Amsterdam — are where Super 8 truly shines.
For larger, more formal events — where structure and full coverage are essential — digital film can sometimes be the better fit.
However, you can definitely use Super 8 as a creative addition: a beautiful mood piece alongside a full digital wedding video.
Keep in mind that Super 8 is more sensitive to lighting conditions, and it requires a bit more patience.
You’ll need to trust my professional eye and experience, as there’s no instant preview. Only after the lab has developed and scanned the film can I show you a first glimpse. But that’s also part of the charm of analog!

HOW MUCH DOES A SUPER 8 WEDDINGFILM COST?
This depends on how long I’m present at your wedding and the number of film cartridges I use. My standard package (up to 3 hours) starts at €1850.
You can extend this with additional hours of filming.
If I’m attending your wedding as a photographer, I can also include a touch of Super 8 film footage as an add-on.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TILL WE RECEIVE OUR FILM?
The average turnaround time for a Super 8 wedding film is 6 to 12 weeks. The film is first developed in a specialized lab, then digitized, edited, and lovingly assembled. Once it’s ready, you’ll receive the final film digitally—like a romantic keepsake delivered straight to your inbox.
WHAT IF THE LIGHTING CONDITIONS ARE POOR?
Super 8 film is light-sensitive and performs best in natural daylight. If you’d like footage of an indoor party or reception with low light, I can use a small on-camera light. Be aware, though, that this light is quite visible—so it’s worth considering whether that suits the mood you want.
WHAT HAPPENS IS A CARTRIDGE OR THE FILM FAILS?
I always film with multiple cartridges and have backup cameras on hand.
In addition, I simultaneously capture the same scenes using a small digital camera, providing a form of backup.
When sending the cartridges to the lab, I use insured shipping.
In our initial (non-binding) consultation, I’ll explain how everything is handled contractually in the rare event that a film cannot be delivered.
